Roles: Paris Independent Schools is seeking a dedicated and versatile educator to serve as the In-School Suspension (ISS), Special Education (LBD), and Virtual Learning Teacher for both Paris Middle and High School. This unique, full-time position is responsible for overseeing the in-school suspension program, managing the district's Virtual Learning Academy, and providing special education services to students with learning and behavior disorders (LBD).

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage the in-school suspension room to ensure a structured, supportive environment focused on academic engagement and behavioral reflection.

  • Oversee and support students enrolled in the Virtual Learning Academy, including progress monitoring, communication with online instructors, and technical assistance.

  • Maintain a caseload of students with LBD, providing specially designed instruction, accommodations, and behavioral supports in accordance with IEPs.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, counselors, administrators, and families to support student success across settings.

  • Implement behavior intervention plans and strategies for students exhibiting behavioral challenges.

  • Utilize virtual learning platforms and tools effectively to monitor student progress and engagement.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and data related to IEPs, behavior, academic progress, and virtual learning.

  • Participate in ARC meetings, team meetings, and professional development as required.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Kentucky teaching certification in Special Education – Learning and Behavior Disorders (LBD).

  • Experience working with students who exhibit behavioral challenges and emotional needs.

  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques and restorative practices.

  • Familiarity with virtual learning platforms (e.g., Edgenuity, Odysseyware, Google Classroom) and online instructional strategies.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a similar multi-role position or alternative education setting.

  • Training in de-escalation strategies and/or trauma-informed care.
