Position: Social Studies Teacher (Grades 9–12)
Location: Paris High School, Paris, Kentucky


Position Summary
Paris High School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Social Studies Teacher (Grades 9–12) who is committed to delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that prepares students for college, career, and civic life. The ideal candidate will create engaging learning experiences that promote critical thinking, historical analysis, and real-world connections while driving measurable academic growth.


This role requires a strong instructional leader who can engage diverse learners and contribute to a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications (Kentucky Requirements)

  • Valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate (or eligibility) in Social Studies (Grades 8–12 or 9–12)
  • Compliance with 704 KAR 3:370
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred)

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Instruction and Curriculum
    • Deliver standards-based instruction aligned to Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Social Studies
    • Teach courses such as U.S. History, World History, Government, Economics, or related subjects
    • Develop lesson plans that emphasize:
      • Critical thinking
      • Primary and secondary source analysis
      • Civic engagement and real-world connections
    • Implement instructional strategies that promote student discourse and inquiry-based learning
  • Student Engagement and Learning Environment
    • Create a classroom culture that is student-centered, engaging, and academically rigorous
    • Use discussion protocols, debates, and collaborative learning structures
    • Encourage students to analyze, question, and defend ideas using evidence
  • Assessment and Data Use
    • Design and implement formative and summative assessments aligned to standards
    • Use student data to inform instruction and provide targeted interventions
    • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to improve outcomes
  • Differentiation and Support
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including:
      • Students with disabilities
      • English Learners
      • Advanced learners
    • Collaborate with Special Education and support staff to ensure access to the curriculum
  • Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities
    • Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
    • Collaborate with colleagues to analyze data, plan instruction, and improve student outcomes
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress
  • Classroom Management
    • Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior and academic performance
    • Maximize instructional time through effective classroom routines and procedures
    • Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching high school Social Studies (Grades 9–12)
  • Strong background in inquiry-based instruction and project-based learning
  • Experience integrating technology and digital resources into instruction
  • Knowledge of civic literacy and college/career readiness practices

Working Conditions
