Description

Paris High School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered, and highly motivated Head Boys Basketball Coach to lead and grow a competitive, disciplined, and academically focused basketball program. The Head Coach will be responsible for building a program that reflects excellence in athletics, academics, character development, and compliance with all Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) rules and regulations.


This position requires a leader who is committed to developing the total student-athlete while establishing a culture of accountability, integrity, and sustained success.

 

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Development

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive basketball program (Varsity, JV, and feeder systems)
  • Establish a year-round plan for skill development, strength and conditioning, and player growth
  • Build a sustainable program aligned with Paris High School’s long-term vision for excellence
  • Foster a culture of discipline, teamwork, accountability, and pride

Student-Athlete Development

  • Promote academic achievement as a top priority (monitor grades, attendance, and eligibility)
  • Develop student-athletes’ character, leadership, and life skills
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to support post-secondary opportunities (college, career, military)
  • Ensure student-athletes meet all eligibility requirements per Kentucky High School Athletic Association guidelines

Compliance and Operations

  • Ensure full compliance with all Kentucky High School Athletic Association bylaws, including:
    • Player eligibility and academic requirements
    • Transfer rules and residency requirements
    • Recruiting and undue influence regulations
    • Practice limitations and dead periods
  • Maintain accurate records, rosters, and required documentation
  • Coordinate scheduling, transportation, equipment, and game operations
  • Work collaboratively with the school administration and the athletic director

Coaching and Instruction

  • Plan and conduct effective, organized practices that emphasize fundamentals and game strategy
  • Demonstrate knowledge of modern basketball systems, analytics, and player development
  • Prepare the team for competition at the district, regional, and state levels
  • Evaluate team performance and adjust strategies accordingly

Staff and Program Management

  • Recruit, hire (as applicable), and supervise assistant coaches
  • Provide leadership and professional development to coaching staff
  • Ensure alignment and consistency across all levels of the program

Community and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with students, families, staff, and the community
  • Promote the program through positive communication and community involvement
  • Collaborate with feeder programs (middle school, youth leagues) to strengthen the pipeline
  • Support and engage with booster organizations and school initiatives

Qualifications

  • Previous successful coaching experience (head coaching experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a competitive basketball program
  • Strong knowledge of Kentucky High School Athletic Association rules and regulations
  • Valid teaching certificate or ability to obtain employment within the school/district preferred
  • Completion of required KHSAA coaching certifications (including safety and compliance training)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Compensation

  • Stipend based on district salary schedule
